Star Stuff Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit theatre company based in Lexington, KY. We're focused on the development, production, and presentation of new works, translations, and adaptations. We strive to redefine what it means to do theatre in Lexington and prove you don't have to go far to find a theatre scene focused on creating and critiquing new works from concieved idea to staged reality.
Star Stuff gets its name from that Carl Sagan quote. Sagan pointed out that "Our Sun is a second- or third-generation star. All of the rocky and metallic material we stand on, the iron in our blood, the calcium in our teeth, the carbon in our genes were produced billions of years ago in the interior of a red giant star." In other words, all that we are and all that we will be has always existed. What is new was at some point old and what is old will be made new again. I wanted a name that evoked our dedication to the new in new works as well our dedication to making the "old" in what we translate and adapt new again. One of the very first things anyone ever did was look up at the stars and make up stories about what they were seeing. Sagan drove his point home by telling us, "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself." And at Star Stuff we believe stories are a way for us to know ourselves.
